1. Welcome. |
- Sally welcomed everyone and thanked them for
giving up their evening. Firstly we will hold the AGM, this will be
followed by a parents evening. The committee will also be available
for questions.

- Fran Kirkwood from North Somerset Council, Early
Years and Childcare Team and Sue Youle from the Pre-school Learning
Alliance were introduced and thanked for joining us for the evening.
|

- Fran will be the speaker following the AGM.

2. Agree and sign minutes from last meeting. |
- These were agreed and signed.
|
|
|
|
3. Matters arising from last meeting. |
- There was nothing outstanding from the last
meeting.
|
|
|
|
4. Chair's Report. |
- Sally explained that each year the Constitution and Playgroup
Policies have to be re-adopted she went on to ask if someone would
propose and second these items. Kath Houlden proposed the
Constitution, Lucy Prince was the seconder. The Policies were
proposed by Suzy Channing-Pearce and seconded by Tracy Skinner.
Sally pointed out that two amendments will be made to the Policies
which will be shown on the playgroup web site and in the Playgroup
Policy booklet in the reception area shortly.

- Sally went on to say that this has been her first
year as chairperson as she had previously been the treasurer. It has
been a busy year.
|
|
- A Committee Newsletter has been introduced
informing parents of all the news and ideas suggested by parents,
staff and committee members.
|
|
- A Logo Competition was held which had a terrific
response. The new logo was designed by Mike Gerrish, who the
committee would like to thank for all his hard work and
encouragement.
|
|
- Following the logo design the pre-school have
introduced t-shirts and sweat shirts.
|
|
- Portishead Playgroups web site has been launched.
This contains information about both pre-schools. Thanks to Peter
Melson for setting up and maintaining the web site.
|
|
- Fundraising has been fantastic - the Victorian
Evening was a successful start to the festive season.
|
|
- Carnival was busy selling sweets, books and
playing games.
|
|
- A Fete was introduced this year and was a great
success. Thank you to Leah Sperring who brought Otis the owl, thank
you to Mr and Mrs Clarke who provided catering facilities and
donated their profits to playgroup. Also thank you to Pete Cook for
providing the sound system.

- Over the summer holiday an information Guide for
parents was produced.
|
|
- Hilltop pre-school have recently introduced a new
session for 2 - 3 year olds, this was possible as Hilltop is already
registered with OFSTED for 2- 5 year olds. The session is currently
full and we are holding a waiting list.
|
|
- New staff were recruited at Hilltop during the
year. A warm welcome was given to, Sue Marshall, Debbie Balson
Claire Godby and Kathleen Lumby.
|
|
- The committee and staff have had a few very
enjoyable evenings out over the year.
|
|
- Over the next year we are endeavouring to get the
railings at Hilltop painted and the outside tidied up. Also, we are
hoping to paint inside the hall, if anyone would like to volunteer
to help they will be very welcome.
|
|
- Sally went on to thank the following people: Thank
you to the staff at the Pre-school Learning Alliance for their
support, Thank you to Fran Kirkwood from North Somerset Years for
all her support with the groups, Thank you to Paul Tomkins who gave
the committee some excellent advice and support.

- Sally also thanked all the Parent Rep's for their
work, support and ideas and thank you to all her colleagues on the
current committee for all their work it is really appreciated.
|

- Finally, a huge Thank You to the staff at Brampton
and Hilltop who do a fantastic job. Without their professional
skills, dedication, energy and enthusiasm our children would not
have so much fun learning through play.
|

|
5. Treasurer's Report.
|
- Julia introduced herself and advised everyone that they had been
given a copy of the financial statement for the year running from
01/09/2004 31/08/2005.
|
|
- Playgroups total income for the year was £92,372 an increase of
£18,654 on the previous year.
|
|
- Julia went on to talk about some of the income throughout the
year and how some items are listed within the statement.
|
|
- Fundraising generated £2075, all the parents were thanked for
their contribution towards this success. Generally the grant and fee
are used to cover the cost of staffing and buildings and the income
from fundraising is used to purchase equipment, toys and crafts for
both playgroups.
|
|
- In the accounts the item listed as "no description" is income
received from the sale of t-shirts.
|
|
- Turning to expenditure the total for the year was £87,956 an
increase of £8863 on the previous year.
|
|
- The main expense for the playgroup is the cost of staffing both
groups.
|
|
- A new photocopy facility was provided during the year which
increased the cost of postage, printing and stationery as an
information guide was produced along with posters and flyers.
|
|
- Advertising costs increased due to placing advertisements in the
local press to recruit new staff.
|
|
- Catering and sundries is less as items which has previously been
shown as sundries have now more accurately been listed under Xmas
celebrations.
|
|
- Maintenance rose substantially due to the cost of replacing the
carpet at Brampton.
|
|
- Work wear increased as staff polo shirts have been replaced and
now show the new logo.
|
|
- Rent covers the cost of hiring the hall and a garage at Avon
Way. Water, heat and light expenses reflect the cost of these for
Brampton.
|
|
- The fee per session will rise from 1st January 2006 to £6.00.
|
|
- Overall we had an excess of income of £4416. This has been kept
within the current year to purchase a pc laptop for the playgroup.
This income will also be used to provide new equipment for
Brampton's outdoor play area and the purchase of age appropriate
equipment for the new 2-3 year old session at Hilltop.
|

- Finally Julia asked for volunteers to propose and second
accepting the financial accounts. Sue Mayger was the proposer and
Carl Scammell seconded.
|

6. Brampton Report.
|
- Hilary started by saying what a lovely year they had had at
Brampton, it had been busy and lots of fun. Many topics had been
covered including colour and colour mixing and the life cycle of a
butterfly and a butterfly farm. Also many cultures had been
celebrated.
|
|
- During the year they had enjoyed a Christmas Party, a trip to
Noah's Ark, an End of Year Party for those going to school - Parent
Rep's were thanked for organizing the party.
|
|
- One of the highlights of the year was the Surestart Music
Concert- singing songs with Bill.
|
|
- Some of the fundraising events were a sponsored tricycle ride,
the Victorian Evening and the Carnival.
|
|
- Several Reception teachers visited Brampton and the children
moving on to St. Peters school visited the school walking with
parents and staff.
|
|
- Finally, Hilary thanked Parents and Committee for their support.
|

7. Brampton Parent Rep's Report.
|
|
|
|
|
|
8. Hilltop Report.
|
- It has been an interesting and rewarding year. Hilltop have
looked at bugs and beasts, £60 was raised on Red Nose Day, Father
Christmas visited the Christmas Party and Noah's Ark was visited in
the summer where they had a very bumpy tractor ride.
|
|
- Springboard and Early Years have given a great deal of support.
|
|
- Reception teachers visited Hilltop to meet the children moving
on to school.
|
|
- We have had a tremendous response to the Prepare for pre-school
session.
|
|
- Some of the fundraising activities over the year have been a
sponsored bounce, the Victorian Evening and the Carnival.
|
|
- Finally Sue thanked the Committee particularly Sally Melson for
all the support.
|
|
